Beginner Tips and Tricks for Planet Coaster 2

Beginner Tips and Tricks for Planet Coaster 2

Although it launched to ‘Mixed’ reviews on Steam, Planet Coaster 2 still managed to impress long-time fans of Frontier Developments’ park management franchise. The game features numerous improvements to the series, such as creating high-octane water parks. It also offers greater control over the customization and construction mechanisms, allowing you to truly create the park of your dreams.

But for newcomers, the game can feel overwhelming. You have hundreds of set pieces to play with, path tools, three different game modes, and roller coaster construction mechanics that take some getting used to. It’s a lot to enjoy. Hopefully, with the right Planet Coaster 2 beginner tips and tricks, you’ll find your time as a park builder more fulfilling!

Start with career mode

If you’re anything like me, you’re probably tempted to dive straight into sandbox mode, where you can build anything you want with unlimited money and time. But wait! I recommend starting in career mode. It offers a guided experience with accessible objectives designed to teach you key gameplay mechanics, such as how to increase power in your park. Seriously, you need power to run rides, so it’s helpful to know this information!

Plus, Career Mode introduces you to Planet Coaster 2’s new features: water parks! You’ll learn how to create and customize water slides, pools, and sunlit areas so your visitors can laze around and throw trash on the ground while you rake them over the coals for every possible dollar.

Invest heavily in entertainers

Planet Coaster 2 will feature ten entertainers at launch that you can hire to entice the crowd and keep everyone happy as you wander around the park. These entertainers include:

  • Main beef

  • Gulpe Rex

  • Cosmic Cow

  • Queen Splash

  • King roller coaster

  • Crescendo Melodis

  • Saguaro Guitaro

  • Sandy reef

  • Bodhi

  • The Viking

Once you hire an entertainer, they’ll roam the paths of your park, randomly interact with guests, and keep parkgoers happy while they wait in line for the next big ride. These helpful employees help improve mood, which encourages customers to return for future visits and spend more money at your vibrant park!

Pause before the path

Without the right path, you’ll find visitors to your park piling up and creating roadblocks. It’s much easier to plan ahead than to upgrade your pad over time. So with that goal in mind I recommend that you start your game (regardless of the game mode) by pausing and creating a general layout. You can use the path tool to increase the size of a central concourse, as in the screenshot above, to help you plan the overall flow of your park.

As a park manager, you want to guide customers to attractions, merchandise and meals that can help you make money. If they can’t reach these attractions, they turn into a big ball and become stuck, preventing future visitors from passing.

Landscape increases the appeal of attractions and parks

When was the last time you went to an amusement park? Was it a barren landscape with spider webs and dust bunnies rolling across the parking lot? Or was it full of life, with unique landscapes that appeal to the imagination? Most likely the latter, which makes for an exciting theme park in real life, also works in Planet Coaster 2.

After you ride, spend some time exploring the area. You don’t necessarily have to follow a theme; it can be a mix of different landscape objects and types, but you will want to eliminate much of the empty space in your park to increase its appeal. The more attractive your rides and attractions are, the more Prestige you will earn and the better your park will perform overall. Keep these elements in mind and you will be swimming in money, which you can then reinvest!

Learn the most important keyboard shortcuts

If you’re playing on PC (the best platform for Planet Coaster 2), you’ll have access to tons of keyboard shortcuts to help you build the park of your dreams. Remembering these will make playing the game a breeze. Some of the most important are:

  • Ctrl + Z – Undo

  • Ctrl + Y – Again

  • Right Ctrl + Right Shift + G – Hide UI

  • Alt – Radial menu

  • L – Camera light

  • Hold Z – Rotate objects

  • Z – Turn 90 degrees

  • P – Switch angle snap

  • BV/V – Align or stick to the surface

  • F – Click objects on the wall piece

  • Ctrl+D – Duplicate objects

  • U/Y – Increase or decrease the path

As a park management game you have to fully meet the needs of your customers. If they need drinks, provide them with a Gulpee stall. If they are hungry, you can add Chief Beef. However, a new gameplay mechanic in Planet Coaster 2 – dynamic weather – provides additional challenges beyond the tangible.

As the weather varies, so does the comfort level of your guests. They take cover and retreat to the water park when it is too hot. When it rains, they look for umbrellas. But without room for guests to settle in, they will eventually leave. You need to take the weather into account when creating every inch of your park; this way visitors spend more time and money!

Planet Coaster 2 isn’t the only hit to be released in November. There are numerous video game releases this month that should hold your attention!
