The St. Nicholas Balalaika Orchestra performs after the College Club meeting in North Canton

NORTH CANTON − The St. Nicholas Balalaika Orchestra performs Saturday at Community Christian Church, 210 N. Main St.

The program is part of the monthly meeting of the College Club of Canton, but is free and open to the public. The meeting starts at 10:15 am and the program at 10:30 am.

The orchestra plays traditional instruments and wears costumes from 18th century Eastern Europe. It plays Slavic music that has been handed down through the centuries. In its 38th year, it is the only balalaika orchestra in Ohio and the only remaining church orchestra in the United States. It is located in St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Mogadore.

The College Club is a nonprofit organization that provides scholarships and grants and promotes higher education among students and residents of Stark County.
