Former US Marine from Pembroke killed in motorcycle accident had ‘big heart’

The loved ones of a former U.S. Marine from Pembroke who was killed a crash last week remember the 28-year-old man for his “big heart” and the way he lit up a room.

Jacob “Jake” James Foss died Nov. 7 after his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck on Pond Street around 1:30 p.m., according to the Plymouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

After Foss’s military service, he was a police officer for both the MBTA Transit Police and the Hingham Police Department, according to his obituary.

Foss was on track to receive his Class A CDL from the New England Tractor Trailer Training School in March 2025.

“Jake loved his family, was a proud Marine and had a deep love of animals and nature,” his obituary reads.

The 28-year-old left behind his fiancée and their beloved German Shepherd, his loved ones wrote. He is also survived by his mother and father, and was a beloved grandson, nephew, cousin, great-nephew and dear friend.

From an early age, Foss loved motorcycles and weightlifting, his loved ones said, passions that continued into his adult life. He had received his master’s degree from Bridgewater State University.

“Jake had a big heart, was compassionate, generous, energetic and a big teddy bear,” his loved ones said.

“His smile lit up the room and he will be deeply missed by all who loved him,” they wrote.

Friends and relatives of Foss are invited to visitation hours for his services on Thursday, November 14 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, located at 21 Emerald St. in Hingham.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Church of Resurrection in Hingham. His burial will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in Foss’ memory to the Scituate Animal Shelter, located at 780 Chief Justice Cushing Hwy. in Scituate.
