This Month in Gaming Vlogging, July 2024 – Critical Distance

Welcome to you, viewers.

While the goal of this roundup is to focus on good gaming videos, the closure of popular gaming magazine Game Informer last week can’t go unnoticed. Game Informer was hugely influential, and until its ignominious demise, it was home to many, many writers whose work appeared in previous Critical Distance roundups. There’s not much we can do to undo the damage done by GameStop executives (or any gaming media outlet that has laid off staff in recent years), but we can do this:

Former Game Informer staffer Alex Van Aken has launched a new video game documentary channel. The channel is called Viewport, and Van Aken already has a few documentaries, including Another Crab Treasure and independent microgame Shipwrecked – in preparation. Go give Alex and Viewport your eyes and maybe some financial support too. You can be sure we’ll be sitting down when that happens. Another Crab Treasure doc falls.

Speaking of financial support, everything we do here at Critical Distance is supported by readers via Patreon! Your membership helps us continue to write great gaming articles, whether those articles are written on paper or on screen.

This month in Videogame Vlogging highlights the most compelling video game review videos from the previous month.
