Revanth wraps US visit on high note, sets off on Korean sojourn

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Sunday concluded his tour of the United States during which he secured over `31,500-crore investment plans for the state that would create over 30,750 new jobs. On the last day, the Amazon senior leadership, led by Kerry Person, vice-president, Data Center Planning and Delivery, Amazon Web Services, said the corporation would give a stronger thrust to its data center operations in Telangana.

The Chief Minister-led team has left for South Korea, which is a major power in electronics and automobiles, to secure more investments.

During the visit to the US, the Chief Minister and his team held over 50 business meetings, three roundtable conferences and several field visits, where they met senior officials of these companies.

The tour concluded 19 investment deals, during which Revanth Reddy pitched Telangana as the Future State and Hyderabad 4.0 to American businesses.

Before leaving for South Korea, Revanth Reddy said that the trip opened a myriad of areas for accelerated partnerships, setting new horizons and showcasing our wealth of potential for new opportunities. “From our plans in AI to building the Future City, corporations, startups, business leaders, tech and business associations and influencers have agreed to take our breathtaking vision to more people.”

The deals came from across the sectors such as IT, GCC, lifesciences, pharma, data centers, AI, cloud and data centers, electric vehicles and batteries, green energy, FMCG and manufacturing.

The delegation, including IT and industries minister D. Sridhar Babu, and officials got massive support for Revanth Reddy’s initiatives, including the foundation of a Future City, AI City, rejuvenation of the Musi river, and the zealous pitch to shape Telangana as the right fit for the quest of America, Inc. for a China-Plus-One alternative.

The major announcements in the IT sector include the Charles Schwab GCC, one of America’s leading financial sector corporations. The Trinet deal opens major forays ahead in the HR solutions sector. The significant expansions by global IT major Cognizant, and Arcesium announcement, reinforced the edge of Hyderabad in the IT/GCC space. The pharma/life sciences sector saw fresh investments from nearly a dozen American companies.

The government concluded deals on skilling with Corning, biotech research with Amgen, and animal health by Zoetis Inc. Thermosphere is set to give a further boost to the life sciences ecosystem of Telangana. Aurum Equity also made a significant announcement to set up an AI-powered green data center. Monarch Tractors adds a crucial fillip to our Telangana’s ambition of growing in high-end manufacturing.

The delegation led by the Chief Minister Revanth Reddy also engaged with Apple, Google, Stanford University.

Another major takeaway of the visit was the decision by Amazon to make significant expansions in their data center presence in Hyderabad and use the city as a hub in a big way to drive their India presence.

After meeting with a team of Amazon senior leadership, led by Kerry Person, vice-president, AWS Data Center Planning and Delivery, a Telangana delegation led by IT minister Sridhar Babu convinced the corporation to give a stronger thrust to its data center operations here.

Amazon has located its largest corporate building in the world in Hyderabad. It launched its dedicated air cargo network ‘Amazon Air’ in Hyderabad in 2023.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has designated Hyderabad as a strategic region and three big data centers are operational. Company officials shared plans for further expanding their business, including a new hyper scale data center in Hyderabad that are critical for artificial intelligence (AI) / machine language (ML) enabled services.

Sridhar Babu, who led the discussions for the state government, said that their talks with Amazon were extremely positive and successful. “We assured the corporation that we will provide them with the best incentives and complete support to make their goals in Hyderabad successful. We expected a huge expansion of their presence in our state,” the minister said.

Speaking after the meeting, Person said he was excited by the opportunity to further expand Amazon’s cloud infrastructure in Hyderabad, as an integral component of AWS’s strategy in India.

“We expect the AWS Region in Hyderabad will play an increasingly important role in supporting AWS’s growth of cloud services in India, including artificial intelligence in the near future. AWS is committed to contributing to Telangana’s digital ambitions, empowering our customers and partners across the state and the country to drive towards India’s trillion-dollar digital economy goal.” Person said.
