Former Prime Minister and senior BJP leader Shanta Kumar (pictured) today said that the police officers in Shimla state should follow SP Sanjiv Gandhi in checking the growing menace of drug trafficking in the state.

In a press statement here today, Shanta said Gandhi had launched a massive crusade against the drug mafia in Shimla last year and had managed to eliminate half a dozen gangs operating in the district, besides arresting a number of peddlers and goons. and suppliers.

Shanta said Himachal Pradesh was facing the menace of drug trafficking and abuse, which was a matter of concern. Therefore, government agencies had to follow Gandhi’s example and combat the menace before the situation spiraled out of control like the one in Punjab. He said school-going children were the worst affected by the drug menace.

“The drug problem poses a serious threat to public health, safety and well-being. Moreover, it is considered to be the perpetrator of minor crimes as well as heinous crimes such as smuggling and money laundering,” Shanta added.

He categorically stated that human trafficking and abuse continued to take a significant toll on valuable human lives in the state, adding that traffickers also “seamlessly” smuggled various types of drugs from one corner of the state to another, “impairing the availability” of drugs was insured. the contraband for the ‘vulnerable sections’ of society, who fell into the trap of these peddlers.
