CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI. – A Macomb County man is facing six charges related to possession of child sex content.

Joshua Mathes, 43, was arrested around 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024, outside his home in Chesterfield Township.

Members of the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office Enforcement Team said they took several laptops, cellphones and tablets from Mathes’ home, as well as a CPU hard drive and a small external hard drive.

Officials believe Mathes was in possession of child sexual abuse material. He is also accused of using several websites with that content and visiting message boards used by child predators.

Mathes is charged with three counts of aggravated possession of child sexual abuse material and three counts of using a computer to commit a crime.

Each of these charges is a 10-year felony.

Mathes was arraigned Friday in the 42nd District Court in New Baltimore. Bail was set at $10,000 cash/surety. If he is released, he will not be able to go online or contact anyone under the age of 18.
