Police have not yet arrested any suspects in the shooting of Pastor Bugingo

The incident happened on January 2 at around 9pm at Bwalakata Junction in Namungoona, Kasubi in Rubaga Division.

“The hunt for the suspects in the case is still continuing,” police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma said in an interview yesterday.

The incident left Pastor Bugingo of House of Prayer Ministries International in Kampala injured, while his bodyguard, Corporal Richard Muhumuza of the Special Forces Command (SFC), later succumbed to serious gunshot wounds.

The deceased, who his colleagues said was in his late 30s, was from Sembabule district. The deceased had served as Pastor Bugingo’s bodyguard for about ten months.

Police had earlier offered a Shs20 million prize to any member of the public who could provide information on the identity of the suspects.

Police investigation also showed that the gun in the shooting was related to the gun used to kill vlogger Isma Olaxes in May 2023.

The car that Pastor Aloysius Bugingo (Inset) of House of Prayer Ministries International was driving at the time of the attack.

The shooting mystery adds to many others that have happened in recent years, without conclusive investigation.

In June 2018, Arua Municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga was shot dead as he approached his home in Kawanda, Wakiso District. To date, no suspect has been charged in court for the crime.

Police had initially arrested a boy from a neighboring home who dropped a cell phone at the scene of the crime. But later, the police released him after they realized that the youth had accidentally dropped the phone there.

On May 6, 2023, Vlogger Isma Olaxes was shot dead in his car by unknown assailants near his home in Kyanja, a suburb of Kampala. However, so far no suspects have been brought to trial in this case.
