Cleaner dies after being found in the waters off Hong Kong’s Stonecutters Island

A sanitation worker died on Tuesday after being found unconscious in the waters off Stonecutters Island in Hong Kong.

Emergency services were called at around 8.45am when police were contacted by the man’s colleague, who suspected he had fallen into the water from the public freight work area of ​​Stonecutters Island in Cheung Sha Wan.

A police spokeswoman said the worker was later found floating in the sea outside the site.

She said the man was pulled from the water and rushed to Princess Margaret Hospital in Kwai Chung where he was pronounced dead at around 10.15am.

A source familiar with the case said the victim worked as a cleaner at the public freight workshop and was on a night shift at the time of the incident.

The insider said CCTV footage showed the man leaving his office and heading towards the waterfront shortly before 6am.
