Varsity seeks government intervention against attacks and land grabbing in rivers – News – The Guardian Nigeria News – Nigeria and World News

Representatives of the University of the Nations, Abara, in Etché Local Council of Rivers State, yesterday urged the State and Federal Governments to intervene in brutal attacks by land grabbers who are reportedly operating with impunity under the apparent protection of certain police commanders of Rivers State. .

The university’s project manager, Salvation Moses, noted that this is a pressing concern that threatens the integrity and survival of the institution.

He alleged that the criminal elements have been emboldened, shown shocking disregard for the rule of law, and encroached upon the land acquired by the American Missionary Institution more than a decade ago.

Disclosing this at a press conference in Port Harcourt, Moses said suspected land grabbers have no legitimate documentation to substantiate their claims but relied on armed thugs and corrupt security agents who ignore the law for personal gain.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, at the time of filing this report, said the officers never participated in such cases, especially in land matters.

She added that the Commissioner of Police (CP) has confirmed the incident and ordered a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

The River Police spokesperson expressed surprise that people were holding a press conference on the matter even though it was being investigated. She announced that the State Criminal Investigation Department is handling the case and that the investigation has started.
