Person dies after being hit by train near Blairhill train station

A person has died after being hit by a train in North Lanarkshire.

Emergency services were called to a section of the line near Blairhill train station at around 8.10am on Tuesday.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not considered suspicious.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “Officers were called to the line at Blairhill train station at around 8.10am today, Tuesday 12 November, following reports of a casualty on the track.

“Paramedics also attended but unfortunately one person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the Attorney General’s Budget.”

ScotRail said services on this route will be subject to delays or cancellations, and eight buses currently shuttle between Shettleston and Bathgate to connect passengers with rail services.
