A Houston pastor accused of raping and impregnating a young relative is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday

HOUSTON – A local pastor accused of sexually assaulting a minor relative who also allegedly had a child with her when she was 14 is due back in court for a hearing on Tuesday.

We first brought you this story last October, after the allegations against Reverend Robert L. Carter came to light. On Monday evening, another family member of the alleged victim, who spoke out against Carter at the time, speaks to us again.

“Well, he’s been back and forth in court for the past year,” said the family member who we are not identifying to protect the identity of the alleged victim.

Carter, a pastor and bishop, was charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child and sexual assault of a child aged 14 to 17.

“How can you show your face in a church where you profess to keep the word or speak the word of God,” said the relative of the alleged victim.

He says Carter abused the girl about 600 times, starting when she was just seven years old and then getting her pregnant when she was 14. He says the girl gave birth in a closet, then Carter took the baby and dropped him off at a hospital. fire station.

“I mean, it’s horrific for someone, but it’s just a matter of waiting for the justice system to step in and do what they can do,” the family member said.

He says Carter must plead guilty tomorrow or face trial. Although the Harris County District Attorney’s office says they cannot comment on plea deals before they occur, KPRC 2 confirmed Carter is due back in court on Tuesday.

“They have a new judge, a no-nonsense judge and I think she will continue the case as best she can,” the family member said.

Shortly after he was charged last year, Carter posted $200,000 bond. The alleged victim’s relative we spoke with says the baby she had, now six years old, was adopted by a loving family.

“That kid is in the best place possible,” he said.

As for the alleged victim himself.

“She was just tired, she was tired of being scared,” the family member said.

The alleged victim’s loved one adds that she is cooperating with the prosecution and working to heal from the trauma Carter caused.

‘I’ve never met anyone, a woman who was stronger than that woman over there. “I have never met a woman who, if she knows the facts, can get up every day without going crazy,” he said.

In addition to getting justice for his loved one, the family member hopes this story motivates other potential victims of sexual abuse to come forward.
