Traffic chaos at site of truck crash in Shrewsbury – but Salopians rally to raise £3,000 for family who ‘lost everything’

However, kind-hearted Salopians have rallied to raise more than £3,000 for a family who lost everything in the Bayston Hill crashand a little positivity from the ‘catastrophic’ incident.

A Chilton Bulk Transport truck crashed into the Three Fishes pub and a building connected to a takeaway restaurant in Hong Kong City on the A49 at around 5.30am yesterday.

The driver suffered a broken leg, while large parts of the buildings’ masonry were destroyed, leaving large, gaping holes and a trail of destruction. No one else was injured.

Just hours after a truck crashed into a cafe, a vehicle also crashed into a power line

There have been delays locally this morning on the way to the Dobbies roundabout. Temporary traffic lights have been installed.

The AA’s traffic monitoring website said at 9am today: “Partially blocked and very slow traffic due to emergency repairs on the A49 Hereford Road in both directions at Lyth Hill Road.”

Meanwhile, a fundraiser set up for the family who live next door to the pub and run the Chinese takeaway has received thousands of pounds in donations – dwarfing its original target of £750.

One donor, Jodi, said: “I hope this all helps in some way, I’m glad you were all safe.”

Janine and James, who also donated on the Just Giving page, said: “We were shocked to hear this. Our thoughts go out to the family.”

Another contributor to the fundraiser, Phil B, said: “So glad your whole family escaped without injury.”

The page was set up by Chloe Broxton, who said: “The truck hit a family’s home and business as they slept in their bed, before crashing into the side of The 3 Fishes pub.

“The house and Chinese takeaway (Hong Kong City) have been condemned, therefore this family has lost their home, as well as their business and income, which allows them to independently support themselves and four children.

“This is a devastating and traumatic time for the family and I think some financial assistance during this time while finances and insurance are worked out would be really helpful to this family who has lost everything.”
