Shivkumar Gautham, the main gunman involved in the killing of veteran Maharashtra politician Baba Siddique, told police that the Lawrence Bishnoi gang wanted to kill the leader or his son Zeeshan. The police arrested Gautam and four others on Sunday and they have been in police custody for a week.

Gautam reportedly told Mumbai police that his orders were to shoot whoever he came across first, News 18 reported. During interrogation, the lead gunman said Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother Anmol had assigned him the task.

Mumbai Police, along with the Special Task Force of the Uttar Pradesh Police, nabbed Gautam on Sunday as he was making plans to escape to neighboring Nepal. Police also arrested Anurag Kashyap, Gyan Prakash Tripathi, Akash Srivastava and Akhilendra Pratap Singh for providing shelter to Gautam.

Police on Monday sought custody of all five suspects and a Mumbai court allowed their custody till November 19.

Police are reportedly investigating how the suspects managed to obtain weapons for the crime and financial transactions. Mumbai Police have so far arrested 23 suspects in connection with the murder of Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction) leader. According to the Uttar Pradesh police, Gautam had no criminal history.

Baba Siddique, a veteran of Maharashtra politics, was shot by assailants near his son’s office in Mumbai on October 12. As people let off firecrackers to celebrate Dussehra, three assailants emerged from the crowd and neutralized the three-time former MLA’s personal security officer. and opened fire at close range.

The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has claimed responsibility for the murder. He was reportedly killed due to his close ties with Bollywood actor Salman Khan. The Bishnoi gang has been targeting Khan since he was convicted in the blackbuck hunting case.
