Manga creator and series consultant Eiichiro Oda Warner Bros. tipped us off earlier this week that big casting news would be coming over the course of three days for the Showrunners. Joe Tracz & Matt OwensNetflix, Tomorrow Studios and publisher Shueisha have adapted the live-action series One piece. On Wednesday we learned that Katey Sagal (Sons of Anarchy, The Conners) had been cast as Dr. Kureha, with Marc Harelik (Presumed innocent, preacher) as Dr. Hiriluk – both joining our main cast: Iñaki Godoy (Monkey D. Luffy), Mackenyu (Zorro), Emily Rudd (Nami), Jacob Romero (Usopp), and Taz Skylar (Sanji) We are now on the second day, with new news about the casting Sendhil Ramamurthy (The Flash) as Nefertari Cobra: “In the heart of the desert kingdom of Alabasta, where rebellion brews and secrets are buried, stands a king unlike any other. In July, Tomorrow Studios President Becky Clement has shared some major updates regarding the production and casting of the second season. In terms of production, Clements notes that they are in their third week (at the time of the interview) – with filming scheduled to last “through December.” As for when the season will be fully wrapped and ready to hit screens, fans are going to have to be patient – with Clements adding, “It’s a very busy year for VFX, so it’s going to take a while. We’re a long way from the end.”

As for the latest casting announcements that confirmed Smoker, Brogy, No. 5, No. 9, No. 3 and other characters joining the series, Clements noted that the character names should give fans “a pretty good idea of what we’re covering in this season, if you look at the chapters.” The Tomorrow Studios president added, “(Showrunner) Matt (Owens) and Joe Tracz, who’s our new co-showrunner, are great partners, very aligned in every aspect of the show. They’ve been planning everything, and Oda’s been very involved again this season, so it’s been great.”

From there, we have some more updates that we’ll be rolling out with some quick bullet points:

Clement confirms that several seasons are still planned:In response to previous comments that they have enough source material for at least six seasons: “We have those plans. Matt Owens has it in mind, it’s just a matter of partners who have been incredible, who want to keep moving forward, but we’re ready creatively, I can say that.”

Does that mean six seasons? ‘We have several seasons we can talk about’: Clements

Good News/Bad News About Jamie Lee Curtis and Doctor Kureha: Clements reveals that Jamie Lee Curtis’ busy schedule and the production schedule for Season 2 couldn’t mesh. “She (Jamie Lee Curtis) loves the show. She’s got too many movies and TV shows that she’s going to be on, so our production dates aren’t going to work. She really wanted to do it but she’s got contracts in the lead-up, and it got complicated.” But it looks like they’ve found someone else for the role, with Clement joking, “We found an incredible person.”

Joining Godoy, Mackenyu, Rudd, Romero, Skylar, Paulino, Ward and Dorman for the second season, Brendan Sean Murray like Brogy, Callum Kerr as a smoker, Camrus Johnson like Mr. 5, Clive Russell like Crocus, Daniel Lasker like Mr. 9, David Dastmalchian like Mr. 3, Jazzara Jaslyn like Miss Valentine, Julia Rehwald like Tashigi, Rob Colletti like Wapol, Ty Keogh like Dalton, Werner Coetser like Dorry, Katey Sagal like Dr. Kureha, and Marc Harelik like Dr. Hiriluk

One Piece: Monkey D. Luffy’s Birthday Video Teases Mr. 3

Back in May, Godoy had a lot more on his mind than just wishing a happy birthday to “the coolest, most inspiring pirate to ever sail the Grand Line” – as we’ve now officially learned. Check out the cake in the video below… and how it looks like a candle… and then we have the “3” at the top that Godoy lights – before giving us a smirk. Of course, that must mean we’re getting “Loan Shark” Galdino, aka Mr. 3 (a former Baroque Works agent – alongside his partner Miss Goldenweek – and the main antagonist of the “Little Garden Arc”) for season two. After eating the Doru Doru no Mi devil fruit, Mr. 3 develops the ability to create and control wax.
