Driver and nine passengers die in car crash in Jigawa

Ten persons were killed while several others were seriously injured in a horrific motorcycle accident in Taura LGA of Jigawa State.

A resident confirmed to DAILY POST that the accident occurred at Yanfari village, Taura LGA, along Kano/Hadejia Road.

According to him, the incident happened when a bus hit a packed trailer with license plate RGN 180 ZC, causing the vehicle to somersault and killing ten people on the spot.

Spokesman of the Jigawa State Police Command, DSP Lawan Shiisu, confirmed the incident to DAILY POST.

He said: “On November 12, 2024, at about 9:30 pm, a fatal motor vehicle accident occurred at Yanfari village, Taura LGA, along Kano/Hadejia Road.

“The accident occurred when a Toyota Hummer bus with registration number HDJ 631 YDD, driven by one Sani Mainasara of Hadejia LGA, was coming from Kano to Hadejia carrying eleven (11) passengers. Upon reaching the accident site, the bus hit a packed trailer. with license plate RGN 180 ZC, which caused the vehicle to roll over.”

Shiisu said the driver and nine passengers died on the spot.

He added: “Upon receiving the tragic incident, the Taura Division patrol team rushed to the accident site.

“Corpses were evacuated to Hadejia General Hospital for medical examination, where the doctor on duty declared them dead. One remaining passenger was admitted to Majia Primary Health Care Center and is responding to treatment.”

He said the investigation has begun and anyone found guilty will face legal consequences.
