Twenty-seven years after the release of the slasher I know what you did last summer (watch it HERE) and twenty-six years after the follow-up I still know what you did last summer (check that one out HERE), Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. could reprise their roles as Julie James and Ray Bronson in a new sequel, which is set to be released on July 18, 2025 release date – and now there seems to be a chance that Brandy Norwood will reprise her role I still know what you did last summer role in the film as well. Late last month, the new film’s director, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Take revenge) confirmed that the events of I still know what you did last summer are canon and will be part of Julie and Ray’s story in this sequel. Shortly after, Brandy said that someone should call her to be in the movie, since her character, Karla Wilson, survived. Now, Brandy says the filmmakers have been in contact with her!

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Brandy said (with thanks to our friends at Bloody Disgusting for the transcription): “I’ve heard some things about that. So I’m hoping. I don’t know how (Karla) could come back. I haven’t thought about it yet. But I know she should come back. She should definitely come back. They have (reached out), so we’ll see what happens. I would love that.

Robinson will direct the film from a script by Leah McKendrick (MAE), which received some rewrites from Robinson and journalist Sam Lansky. McKendrick told Collider a while back that the new sequel will rely on “some big ideas about hero and villain, good and evil, how your skeletons come back to haunt you. And in the age of the internet and the age where fame is such a revered concept, the creation of TikTok and social media, who is Julie James in a world where there are no more secrets?“McKendrick also said that when she went to pitch her project to Sony, the most important things they wanted to hear were: “the accident, the event that triggered it and the identity of the killer.

I know what you did last summer was directed by Jim Gillespie from a screenplay by Kevin Williamson based on a novel by Lois Duncan. The film has the following synopsis: A year after running over a fisherman and dumping his body into the water, four friends reunite when Julie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) receives a chilling letter telling her their crime was witnessed. While chasing the person he believes to be responsible for the letter, Barry (Ryan Phillippe) is run over by a man with a meat hook. The slaughter only escalates from there, as the hook-wielding killer continues to stalk Julie, Helen (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Ray (Freddie Prinze Jr.).

I still know what you did last summer was directed by Danny Cannon from a screenplay by Trey Callaway. The synopsis: A year after killing Ben Wills (Muse Watson), the victim of a hit-and-run who disemboweled his friends with a hook, college student Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt) is still reeling from the experience. When her roommate Karla (Brandy) wins a four-person vacation to the Bahamas, she plans to take her boyfriend Tyrell (Mekhi Phifer), the handsome Will (Matthew Settle) and Julie with her. At the resort, Julie begins receiving threatening letters and realizes that Ben is still alive.

Hewitt and Prinze are known to be in talks to return as Julie and Ray. While we wait for confirmation of their deals and whether or not Brandy Norwood will be in the film, we do know that Camila Mendes (Riverdale), Madelyn Cline (Outer Banks), Sarah Pidgeon (Beautiful little things), Tyriq Withers (Atlanta), and Jonah Hauer-King (The Little Mermaid) have signed on to star in the film.
