UP’s mammoth police exam begins: 48 lakh contestants vie for 60,000 posts | India News

LUCK NOW: UPThe police officer recruitment The exam, billed as the largest employment test ever conducted in the history of the state with 48 lakh candidates competing for 60,244 posts, began on Friday without any major hitches. This is a re-examination following the cancellation of the previous test in February 2024 after a leak. Four more rounds of the test are scheduled on August 24, 25, 30 and 31, reports Pathikrit Chakraborty.
Nearly 21 per cent candidates skipped the test on Friday, while 61 people were arrested for allegedly impersonating someone during the exams held at 1,174 centres across 67 districts in two shifts. Overall, 8.2 lakh students had downloaded admit cards for Friday’s test, but nearly 6.5 lakh eventually turned up.
DGP Prashant Kumar visited several examination centres, which were monitored by drones and equipped with CCTV cameras and mobile jammers to prevent any unauthorised communication. To ensure a cheating-free environment, magistrates have been appointed at each centre. Over 2,100 UPSRTC buses have been deployed to ferry students to the examination centres.
