Heartland FC involved in road accident

Members of Heartland FC team were involved in an accident on Friday while travelling to Abakaliki for the Ifeanyi Ekwueme TICO/SELECT pre-season tournament.

According to the club, the accident happened at Umunna, near Okigwe, Imo State.

In an attempt to avoid a collision with an oncoming vehicle, the Heartland FC vehicle crashed into a carelessly parked car that was involved in another accident.

“Fortunately, no deaths have been reported, but some players and officials were injured and were rushed to hospital for treatment,” the club said in an official statement after the incident.

Expressions of sympathy have already started pouring in, with Enyimba leading the way.

The People’s Elephant wrote on its X page: Enyimba FC is deeply saddened to learn of the accident involving Heartland FC of Owerri this evening on Okigwe road, while they were travelling to Abakaliki.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Heartland FC family, especially those affected by this incident.
