NC man accused of killing 7-year-old daughter targeted child’s mother, police say

MAXTON, N.C. (WMBF) – A Maxton man is behind bars, accused of killing his 7-year-old daughter after opening fire on an occupied car.

Maxton police arrested 31-year-old Dedric Page in connection with Sunday’s shooting and charged him with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and other gun possession charges.

Officers responded to East Graham Street just before 2 p.m. for a child suffering from a gunshot wound. EMS treated the girl at the scene, but she later died at the hospital.

Maxton Police Chief Schirra Johnson identified the girl as Quazariya Williams. Her mother told police that Page was Williams’ father.

Johnson confirmed to WMBF News that police believe the mother was the intended target of the shooting. Including the victim and her mother, five people were in the car that was shot at, Johnson confirmed.

Page is currently booked into the Robeson County Detention Center.
