Identity has a scent
Olivier Rousteing draws on the house’s iconic French heritage to share his new vision of avant-garde beauty, fueled by respect, love and unity. Infusing resolute inclusivity into the creation of modern luxury fragrances, Olivier Rousteing’s creative vision galvanizes audiences and fans around the world to celebrate their individual beauty. The fragrance becomes the first chapter dedicated to beauty in a new book for the brand, which will expand globally into new categories in the future.

“Balmain Beauty gives you the freedom to live your truth, free and powerful. Beauty is being yourself and having the confidence to embrace who you are,” said Olivier Rousteing, Balmain’s artistic director. “Fashion cannot exist without beauty, and beauty cannot exist without fashion. Beauty is part of your silhouette, who you are, just like the way you dress. I want to represent all the beauties in the world and welcome everyone without exception.”

Take 21stFrom 19th century Paris to the world, Balmain Beauty embodies the quest to find oneself and unite with others to change the meaning of beauty for the future.

Introducing the Balmain Eternals
Les Éternels by Balmain is inspired by the universal quest for personal fulfillment and identity. This inaugural collection features eight multi-layered fragrances drawn from four distinct olfactory families: musk, amber, floral and woody.

Olivier Rousteing has been the lead architect of Balmain Beauty since its inception and has been involved in every aspect of the creation, from concept to fragrance development, packaging design and campaign imagery. He studied perfumery and learned the creative process through hands-on training. After consulting the Balmain archives, he selected four of Balmain’s signature fragrances to reinvent for the modern era: Vent Vert, Ivoire, Ébène and Carbone. Four new fragrances complete the collection: Sel d’Ambre, Rouge, Bronze and Bleu Infini.

“Balmain Beauty is creating a new, forward-thinking space in luxury beauty that celebrates the heritage and inclusive spirit of the iconic house of Balmain,” said Guillaume Jesel, who oversees Balmain Beauty as President and CEO of TOM FORD and Luxury Business Development at The Estée Lauder Companies. “Olivier Rousteing is one of the most accomplished designers of his generation, inventing groundbreaking concepts at the intersection of past, present and future. It has been an extraordinary journey to bring his vision for Balmain Beauty to life.”

“Just like Olivier Rousteing’s most impressive runway shows, Balmain’s ambitious plans for the future growth of the luxury sector draw directly on a skillful combination of the richness of our unique heritage with a resolutely modern perspective,” said Matteo Sgarbossa, Balmain CEO. “Our agreement with The Estée Lauder Companies for Balmain Beauty is a clear embodiment of this strategy. With this partnership, the house begins a new chapter, making it very clear to all our commitment to maximizing cross-category opportunities as we move forward, driven by the passion of our ‘Balmain Army’ and determined to fully realize the potential of this house to become a true leader in the world of luxury.”

The olfactory power of duality
Les Éternels de Balmain features forward-looking elements combined with precious and legendary ingredients:

Olfactory Family: Musk

  • Carbon drives the quest for identity and freedom to confidently reflect all facets of who you truly are (maximalist musk/minimalist pink).

Olfactory Family: Amber

  • Amber SaltGolden mystery illuminates the path to inner peace and self-realization (brilliant amber/salty ambergris).

Olfactory Family: Floral

  • Green Wind reinvents the iconic green fragrance for a new era, forever respecting nature in a timeless journey through past, present and future (airy mandarin green/sensual jasmine).
  • Red radiates an addictive love, reminiscent of the magic hour in Los Angeles, when the sky is not even the limit (addictive bouquet/radiant woods).
  • Ivory carries the legacy of Balmain’s New French Style to the world and into the future. It unites all the beauties of the world, without exception (intoxicating night tuberose/untamed vetiver).

Olfactory Family: Woody

  • Bronze symbolizes rebirth, rising majestically like the phoenix from the ashes (flaming cedarwood/refreshing patchouli).
  • Ebony is the rebirth of Pierre Balmain’s African-inspired fragrance released in 1983, imagined through the prism of Olivier Rousteing’s discovery of his origins. It inaugurates the era of self-discovery and a journey to reveal our universal origin (eternal ebony wood/precious myrrh oil).
  • Infinite Blue transports you to endless skies, infinite seas, and their call to set you free (warm cistus absolute/salty lichen).

“Balmain Beauty embodies an unwavering commitment to excellence in fragrance, emphasizing not only the scent experience but also the evocative emotions it evokes, brought to life through an iconic visual campaign,” added Nathalie Berger Duquene, Senior Vice President and Global General Manager, Balmain Beauty, The Estée Lauder Companies. “The beauty of craftsmanship is reflected in both the packaging design and the ingredients used. Our fragrances are filled with tension, power and strength – they are uniquely Balmain, rooted in diversity and inclusivity.”

The collection is inspired by the first Balmain bottle created in 1946, a masterpiece of simplicity and timelessness. Duality is expressed in the design with contrasting elementary shapes of the circle and the square, the iconic black and gold colors and the label spread over two facets.

Building on this foundation, the new bottle offers a modern, multi-sensory and luxurious experience. The square elongates into a diamond shape; Balmain’s iconic stripes covering the glass echo the existing texture of the gold collar; a new finish and colour palette flatter the touch and the eye. On the cap, a graphic PB monogram symbolises Balmain, taken from the brand’s iconic labyrinth motif from the 1970s.

About Balmain
More than 75 years ago, when Pierre Balmain first presented his “New French Style,” it was clear that his eponymous house was proposing a fresh, bold, and feminine take on haute couture that broke with many of the well-established conventions of the time. His audacity paid off. Pierre Balmain became one of the few young French talents who ushered in the mid-century golden age of couture and helped reestablish Paris as the fashion capital of the world.

Since 2011, Balmain’s creative director Olivier Rousteing has drawn on Pierre Balmain’s extraordinary legacy to create pieces that reflect the way his powerful, global Balmain Army wants to live today. The result is Balmain’s renewed French style for the 21st century: a unique and instantly recognizable house silhouette and attitude that showcases the singular craftsmanship of Balmain’s celebrated ateliers, while constantly referencing a rich Parisian heritage.
