Mariah Carey announces the deaths of her mother and sister on the same day

The statement read: “My heart is broken to have lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life the same day.”

Ms. Carey added in the statement: “I feel blessed to have been able to spend the last week with my mother before she passed away.”

“I appreciate everyone’s love, support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time,” she concluded.

Her mother, Patricia, was an opera singer and voice teacher. She was married to Alfred Roy Carey, and together they had Mariah, Alison and their son Morgan.
