Red Lion man charged with attempted murder after stabbing

A Red Lion man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing another man in the face and neck.

Joel David McWilliams, 36, faces the charge after an incident that occurred shortly before 10:30 p.m. Friday in the 300 block of First Avenue in Red Lion.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, officers arrived on scene and found a 42-year-old man with stab wounds to his cheek and neck. The man was taken to WellSpan York Hospital for treatment and was in stable condition Tuesday.

Police allege McWilliams and the man got into a physical altercation that resulted in McWilliams pulling out a knife and stabbing him.

McWilliams was taken into custody and booked into the York County Jail. In addition to attempted murder, he is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of an offensive weapon, reckless endangerment and simple assault.

McWilliams was denied bail.
