When will the Middletown Target store open? We finally have an answer

For more than a year, the Middletown Target has been “coming soon.”

That’s when the big-box retailer first confirmed it would open a store in one of Delaware’s fastest-growing areas, on Middletown Warwick Road, in a new shopping center north of Middletown. In early 2023, Target’s website listed a Target store on Middletown-Warwick Road among several stores that would soon be opening.

For just as long, potential Middletown customers have been asking, “When’s it coming soon?”

Well, we finally have an answer. The Target store in Middletown is hoping to open on October 13, Target spokespeople confirmed.

“We are excited to bring an easy, affordable and convenient shopping experience to new customers in the Middletown community with this new Target store,” Target spokeswoman Loni Monroe wrote. The store, located at 361 Middletown Warwick Road, will be approximately 148,000 square feet.

Representatives caution that the date could change depending on construction or other variables. The store is hiring numerous candidates for its future Middletown location.

And as they said last year, Target spokespeople say they’ll be able to share more details closer to the store’s opening, including “how the shopping experience will be adapted to serve local customers.”.

Delaware Online/The News Journal has been following the store’s long construction journey since 2022, reporting on Middletown’s approval process. At that time, the company had not publicly commented on the project.

The store will anchor a new shopping complex called Northside Shopping Center, designed by developers Lee and Louis Ramunno. A Sprouts grocery store is planned next door. Advertising materials for the mall also show a Hobby Lobby and a PetSmart.

Where are the Target stores in Delaware?

If built, it would be the fifth Target in Delaware, joining sites at Brandywine Town Center near Concord Pike, Christiana Mall, Prices Corner Mall and Route 13 in Dover.

The Target mall at Price Corner opened in place of Sears in April 2021. The company completed construction and the store opened about a year and a half after the new location was officially announced. That puts the timeline for the Target mall in Middletown pretty much… pardon us… right on target.
