PHILIPPI, W.Va. (WDTV) – A man was killed in a car crash in Philippi Tuesday morning, according to Philippi police.

Authorities responded to the crash near the former Alderson Broaddus University baseball field on Route 119 at approximately 8 a.m. and found multiple damaged vehicles.

Police confirmed the man, driving a silver Nissan Frontier, entered the northbound lane, struck a black Ford F-150, reversed and drove south before leaving the roadway to the right and crashing into a speed limit sign and came across a mailbox. The man entered the roadway again, struck a tan Chevy Cruze, drove through the old baseball field, went through a fence, hit a tree and rolled about 50 to 60 feet along the embankment, police said.

Philippi firefighters had to free the man from the vehicle and he was taken to Broaddus Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The man’s identity is currently being withheld until family can be notified, police said.

The Barbour County Sheriff’s Department and West Virginia State Police assisted Philippi Police at the scene.
