New Mexicans Can Expect to See More Skunks Across the State

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – New Mexico’s striped skunk is preparing for cooler weather by coming out earlier in the evening to stock up on food. A senior zookeeper at ABQ BioPark said to keep a close eye on skunks between dawn and dusk, when they are most active. “If you see a skunk, even if it hasn’t started warning you yet, the best thing to do is give it some space,” said Jessica Washburn, senior zookeeper at ABQ BioPark.

Washburn said northern black bears are also preparing for hibernation.
