North Carolina State football team’s redshirt freshman wide receiver is ‘ready to roll’

North Carolina State football wide receiver Noah Rogers is the only Wolfpack player on Shaun Alexander’s 37-player freshman watch list that the Maxwell Football Club revealed Wednesday.

Rogers, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound freshman and former four-star at nearby Rolesville High School in North Carolina, is a size threat who transferred to NC State from Ohio State in January and impressed coaches during fall camp. As a freshman with the Buckeyes, the speed demon appeared in four games but didn’t make a reception and managed to retain his redshirt, which gave him the opportunity to spend up to four years with the Wolfpack.

In the Wolfpack’s spring game, Rogers caught seven passes for 133 yards and a touchdown.

The NC State football social media team recognized Rogers’ candidacy for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award, given annually to the top newcomer in all of college football, with the following post and the caption “ready to roll”:

Ahead of NC State’s Week 1 home matchup against Western Carolina at Carter-Finley Stadium at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday (ACC Network), Noah Rogers’ only appearance on the Wolfpack’s depth chart is on special teams as a kick returner alongside redshirt freshman running back Hollywood Smothers, a transfer from Oklahoma and former four-star prospect at West Charlotte High School.

Dave Doeren’s No. 12 North Carolina State football team is heavily favored over the Catamounts, so it’s possible Noah Rogers could play receiver in the opener.
