Former NHL analyst Pierre McGuire is getting a new job

Newly minted hockey manager and broadcast analyst Pierre McGuire has accepted a broadcast position at UMass from the NCAA.

Check it out:

“Pierre recruited me to attend Saint Lawrence,” UMass head coach Greg Carvel said in a prepared statement. “We quickly built a strong friendship. He coached me for just one year and then he went on to win Stanley Cups. We have always remained close, when we were in the NHL we spent a lot of time together and crossed paths. He’s one of the smartest hockey people out there and he has a memory of every player and where they played and who they played for and what they did, and it’s really impressive. He’s a very smart hockey person and I know a lot of GMs call him for advice. He is unique and special hockey spirit.”

Most recently, McGuire served the Ottawa Senators as Senior Vice-President of Player Development, a role he held for less than a calendar year when he was fired in 2022.

He is best known for his long stint with NBC Sports Group as lead analyst for NHL ‘Inside-the-Glass’ and as a game analyst for TSN Canada’s national NHL broadcasts. In 2013, McGuire won the Sports Emmy for Outstanding Sports Personality – Sports Reporter. In addition to his work on TSN’s NHL coverage, McGuire provided analysis for TSN’s coverage of the IIHF World Junior Championship and the NHL Entry Draft and for NBC Sports’ coverage of six Olympic Games.
