James McAvoy claims Andrew Tate inspired his ‘Speak No Evil’ character

James McAvoy took inspiration from one person in particular for his new film, Don’t say anything bad.

In James Watkins’ remake, the actor plays Paddy, who McAvoy entrusted Empire Movie Podcast He was inspired by influencer Andrew Tate.

“What I thought I could exploit in the character is that he thinks he’s a bit of a… West Country Andrew Tate,” McAvoy told the show, according to Deadline.

“He says, ‘I’m going to teach you how to be a man again.’ But he’s got a sort of polished face that’s not quite Andrew Tate’s, bright enough to say, ‘I’m not one of those guys,’” McAvoy added. “(Paddy) challenges you: ‘Do you have a big enough dick to have a drink with me?’ or ‘I’m sorry, this is too much for you because you’re not real enough.’”

For the reboot of the Danish thriller, Watkins has also tapped stars Mackenzie Davis and Scoot McNairy to play the American couple who visit the country estate of a British family (McAvoy, Aisling Franciosi and Dan Hough) with their daughter (Alix West Lefler).

“Even though (Paddy) is very masculine and swings his dick around, he’s just a little bit softer,” McAvoy explained. “Almost a Ray Winstone vibe in Sexy Beast: ‘I don’t mind if my belly sticks out, because that’s how comfortable I am with a man.'”

Tate has admitted to being a misogynist and has spoken openly about his toxic masculine tendencies. In late August, Romanian police raided Tate’s home again after allegations that he was involved in trafficking minors. In 2022, Tate and his brother were arrested and charged for allegedly running an organized crime ring that trafficked young women. The Tate brothers are currently banned from leaving Romania.

Don’t say anything bad will premiere in theaters on September 13.
