Heavy rains damage railway track between Mahabubabad and Kesamudram; several trains cancelled

Hanumakonda (Telangana) (India), September 2 (ANI): Heavy rains in the state have damaged the railway track between Kesamudram and Mahabubabad, leading to cancellation of several trains.

Telangana Transport and Backward Classes (BC) Welfare Minister Poonam Prabhakar on Sunday spoke to the passengers stranded at Kazipet Junction in Hanumakonda and enquired about their plight, a statement said.

He was accompanied by MLAs Naini Rajender Reddy, Kavvampalli Satyanarayana and Hanumakonda Collector Praveenya among other officials, the statement said.

The minister assured passengers that the railway line would be restored as soon as the flood waters receded and train services resumed.

He also discussed with the railway officials regarding the restoration of the track and asked the district collector and other officials to ensure that passengers do not face any inconvenience.

Meanwhile, Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka conducted an on-spot inspection of flood-affected areas in Errupalem mandal in Madhira constituency of Khammam district to assess the situation and supervise relief efforts, a statement said.

Earlier on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with Telangana CM Revanth Reddy over the phone and enquired about the flood situation in the areas affected by heavy rains and the damage caused due to floods, a statement from the Telangana CM said.

The Chief Minister drew the attention of the Prime Minister to the losses suffered due to heavy rains in the state and also apprised the Prime Minister about the immediate relief measures taken by the state government without causing any inconvenience or loss of lives, the statement said.

Further, the CM explained to the Prime Minister that Khammam district was the worst hit by the heavy rains and suffered huge rain-related damage.

Prime Minister Modi commended the state government’s efforts in maintaining high alert level and preventing loss of life, the statement said.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister assured that helicopters would be deployed to provide emergency services in case of adverse weather conditions. (ANI)
