Man arrested after allegedly kidnapping four people in Morgan Co.

DECATUR, Ala. (WAF) – A Morgan County man is being held on $200,000 bond after allegedly kidnapping four people.

Dispatch received a call about a possible kidnapping near the intersection of Sandline Rd. and Austinville Rd. Sunday just after 5:20 p.m.

Decatur Police officers responded to the location and contacted two adults and two juveniles who advised they had just escaped captivity from a nearby location.

The violent crimes detective was notified and responded to begin an investigation.

During the investigation, it was reported that John Derek Mitchell held the victims at gunpoint Saturday and held them at his home on Autumnwood Dr. for more than a day. SW barricaded before they could escape.

Four arrest warrants for Kidnapping – 2nd Degree have been obtained for Mitchell.

On Monday, officers contacted Mitchell at his home and took him into custody.

He was booked into the Morgan County Jail and remained on $200,000 bond.
