Silent Hill 2 Reveals Most Immersive Way to Play the Remake

The Bloober Team revealed two new visual options for the upcoming Silent Hill 2 RemakeThe option to disable UI elements associated with the grainy 90s filter will surely appease fans of the classic 2001 horror game.

How do the UI toggle and 90s filter work in Silent Hill 2?

According to a Twitter post by Bloober Team, players will have the option to disable UI elements in the Silent Hill 2 remake. The developer shares more details, saying that James’ visual cues, sound effects, and behavior during gameplay will naturally guide the player through the story. For example, he will look toward important locations and have different animations when he is injured. The developer calls this “the most immersive way to play.”

Another visual option that will be added to the Silent Hill 2 remake is the 90s filter. It brings a grainy, old-school effect to the game’s camera. According to the post, the filter includes grain effect, color correction, and screen adjustments.

The combination of the two visual options helps bring the game closer to the original. The 2001 version is known for its grainy visuals and lack of UI elements. You can see a preview of the options in the post below.

Fans seem to be generally pleased with the new visual options. Twitter user Jake Symbol said, “I was honestly praying for this, it made me sad to think that this is a modern survival horror and it will invariably have a UI. God I love games without UIs.” Another user named Mr. Sparta said, “This is incredibly cool. Bloober Team really cared about this project. Thank you.”

Information about the Silent Hill 2 remake has been trickling in since its reveal. Recently, the game’s creative director and lead designer said that it would take over 20 hours to experience everything the game has to offer. And that’s without counting the new Game Plus mode or multiple endings.

Silent Hill 2 will be released on October 8, 2024 for PS5.
