Rainy school holidays in Tamil Nadu: Chennai and surrounding areas are expected to receive heavy rainfall on Wednesday as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather warning for the city and 11 other districts. According to the Regional Meteorological Center (RMC), heavy rain is likely to continue in Chennai and nearby areas till Friday.
The IMD has forecast isolated heavy showers in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Villuppuram, as well as Puducherry and Karaikal districts of Tamil Nadu.
Local reports indicate that district collectors in several affected areas have declared a school holiday for November 13, 2024 in response to the heavy rains. Unverified reports suggest closures in districts such as Cuddalore, Karaikal, Mayiladuthurai, Ariyalur and Perambalur after continuous rains on November 12 and early November 13.
The IMD has also issued a yellow alert for several districts, with alerts for 12 districts on November 12, 17 districts on November 13, 27 districts on November 14 and 25 districts on November 15. This weather activity is attributed to a low-pressure area. system over the Bay of Bengal, which is expected to move towards Tamil Nadu or Sri Lanka in the coming days.
