PAX West 2024: Jay and Silent Bob: Chronic Blunt Punch Hands-On Preview

Jay and Silent Bob: Chronic Blunt Punch | Featured

It might surprise you to discover that despite demonstrating a Jay and Silent Bob game at PAX West, I’m actually not a huge fan of the series. What’s even weirder is that I am a fan of the antics of Kevin Smith, notably his Comic Book Men TV show. Fortunately, I’m also a fan of beat ’em ups with gorgeous art style, and Jay and Silent Bob: Chronic Blunt Punch most definitely meets those qualifications. Keep reading to see how this crazy joint by Interabang Entertainment, The MIX Games and Digital Eclipse holds up.

Chronic Blunt Punch | Characters

There was probably a time not long ago where this game even existing wouldn’t be a possibility. It’s crass, naughty as hell and really funny. Some weird shopping mall pops up in town, and people quickly start acting extra strange. Kids get more obsessed with their electronics, cars start running people over and shit basically hits the fan. Even though Jay and Silent Bob are screwups, they’re still motivated to set things right. And it probably helps they’re well powered by plenty of green energy along the way.

Chronic Blunt Punch | Nerd Apocalypse

The enemies in Chronic Blunt Punch are delightfully weird, though my absolute favorite were fierce hipsters who attack you with their facial hair (yes, really). It’s fun to team up with a buddy and take on all the maniacs arrayed against you, and it looks like the game will also introduce characters that do Assist attacks. I wasn’t able to experience that in the demo, though I did unlock a couple of them in the stage. It all culminates in a fierce battle against a roid raged Mighty Duck armed with a hockey stick. Me and my partner managed to beat him by the skin of our teeth, but it was really satisfying.

Chronic Blunt Punch | Vroom

Honestly the only small complaint I have with the game is that it only features two playable characters. Yes, I know it’s Jay and Silent Bobbut there’s plenty of characters that could probably join the fun to allow expanded co-op. That said, the game features stunning artwork and challenging gameplay, and is listed as coming soon to PC, Switch and PS4/5.
