Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan was reportedly angry with his France team-mates after a 3-1 defeat to Italy, while captain Kylian Mbappe was branded “silent” on and off the pitch.

Les Bleus took the lead in 14 seconds at the Parc des Princes last night during the Nations League match, before capitulating 3-1 thanks to goals from Federico Dimarco, Davide Frattesi and Giacomo Raspadori.

While the Italian press hails the return of the Nazionale, the first on Parisian soil for 70 years, the French media are in turmoil.

Maignan acted as captain of France

L’Equipe reports that Maignan, one of Milan’s three starting players, angrily shouted at his teammates in the locker room after the match.

He reprimanded them for their terrible attitude, warning them that even though only two Italian players would make the current French XI, they won thanks to their desire and aggression.

It was noted that “no one dared to speak” after that, including absolute silence from captain Mbappe and vice-captain Antoine Griezmann.

The two now veteran players were criticised by the French newspaper for their “silence on and off the pitch”.

Italy will face Israel on Monday night in Budapest, while France risk having their Nations League campaign cancelled as soon as they face Belgium.

The Belgians and Italy are joint leaders, both with 3-1 wins on the opening day.
