Today we are seeing more consequences for local youth involved in violent crime, following community outcry over increased violence.

There is no ‘good news’ regarding homicide charges BUT It’s clear that many Kansas City voters are no longer willing to give murder suspects carte blanche.

Here is the latest news from the courthouse…

Criminal charges filed against juvenile in fatal May 2024 shooting

A Raytown juvenile has been charged in the May 7, 2024, fatal shooting at a south Kansas City residence of a man and the wounding of another person, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.

The SUSPECT is charged with 2nd degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, 2nd degree assault and three counts of armed criminal action.*

According to court documents filed this week, officers responded to a shooting call on May 7, 2024, and found a victim on the porch suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Video surveillance showed the defendant fired multiple shots into the residence, resulting in the death of one person and the injury of another person. After the shooting, the defendant fled the scene and drove to Research Medical Center. The defendant took several firearms from the car to the hospital and attempted to hide them behind a stone wall across the street.

On September 3, 2024, the family court authorized the minor to be tried as an adult.
