Metro Crime Stoppers are urging those with information about the East Parkway murder to come forward

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Birmingham Police Department detectives have completed their report into the shooting that left a grandfather dead, but they need witnesses to come forward to help them find the shooter.

45-year-old Enrique Cortes Martinez was killed on Roebuck Parkway; His five-year-old grandson was in the truck when it happened.

Homicide detectives have completed their preliminary report, but officers say they cannot release anything new as they continue the investigation.

Martinez’s loved ones are sad and did not want to talk at this time.

Officers say the victim was driving on Parkway East Monday morning when a driver pulled up next to Martinez and shot into the truck.

Birmingham police confirmed Martinez’s grandson was also in the truck when the shooting occurred. He has been reunited with his family.

Bob Copus with Metro Crime Stoppers says he wants justice for both the little boy and his family.

“This is something no child should have to experience. It is something the child will think about for the rest of his life. So at least take some of the fear and some of the, what must be enormous stress, off of the stress that that child is experiencing, and let’s get that person off the street,” Copus said.

If you share something that leads to an arrest, you can earn up to $5,000. Again, all you have to do is call Crime Stoppers or share a tip through their app.
