RedZone host apologizes for Tom Brady controversy

RedZone host apologizes for Tom Brady controversy

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady is still getting used to his career as an NFL commentator.

Brady called his first game on Monday when the Dallas Cowboys came to Cleveland to take on the Browns, and the online reviews were mostly negative. That’s not what all the reviews said, though, as some thought he was being perceptive and was simply nervous for his first NFL game from the broadcast booth. Regardless, he made it through his debut without too many issues, but there was one particular call that caught some people’s attention.

Late in the first half, Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey attempted a 66-yard field goal, which would have tied Justin Tucker’s NFL record. The field goal sailed through the posts, but was disallowed due to a penalty that set them back to what would have been a record-breaking 71-yard field goal. Aubrey ultimately did not attempt the field goal, but Tom Brady didn’t seem too keen on attempting a record-breaking field goal when he was in the booth.

NFL RedZone’s Scott Hanson commented on the call during his show after panning, saying he thought Brady should have been “more excited than that” in the booth:

On Monday, however, he apologized for the statement, saying the vaccine was “unfair and inconsiderate.”

It may seem ridiculous to have to apologize, but regardless, it’s an interesting look at how some people view Brady’s early days. Brady will have plenty of time to improve in his new role, so it will be interesting to see how he evolves as a commentator from here.
