Sam Pitroda gives details of Rahul Gandhi’s Washington stop during his US trip

Washington DC (US), September 10 (ANI): Overseas Indian Congress president Sam Pitroda has said that he and Rahul Gandhi will meet a “good number of people” from the Capitol.

About Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the US, he said, “Rahul Gandhi is visiting the US for three days. We spent a full day in Dallas yesterday, where we had three main events: Rahul Gandhi had an informal discussion with the students of Texas, then we had a big community event with nearly 4,000 people, then we had a community dinner in the evening. Then we came here today and had some meetings with the administration, friendly meetings with the people we know personally, then we interacted with the students of Georgetown University. We are now here to interact with about 600 Indians. From there, we will go for dinner. Tomorrow, we have meetings at the Capitol. We have a National Press Club meeting, we will have a think tank conversation and several other meetings.” Rahul Gandhi will leave tomorrow evening, Pitroda said. He added that he will spend the evening in Washington and then return to Chicago on Wednesday.

On the agenda for tomorrow’s meetings, Pitroda said, “I don’t know what the form of the conversation will be, but we are meeting a number of people from Capitol Hill. We are meeting some members of Congress. And we will have interactions. And we will see how it goes. We have met some people, but we are not involved in politics. That is not our objective. Our objective is to have a fair conversation.” Pitroda said he believes that the 2024 general elections in India are not fair.

Pitroda, however, said he believed the people had voted for democracy.

“I am one of those who firmly believe that the elections were not really fair. I unfortunately do not know much about the electronic voting process and what can go wrong and how it can be manipulated. It is not foolproof, no matter what anyone says. And in an environment where the bank accounts of the Congress parties have been frozen, institutions have been confiscated, the media was completely biased, it is difficult to have a fair election. But again, that is my view,” he said.

Talking about what really changed for the Congress party and Rahul Gandhi after the elections and what the impression was of the people who are here to support him in the US, Pitroda said, “I think the fundamental change was that the people of India voted for democracy. The people of India made sure that the BJP did not get 400 seats. The people of India were concerned about the Constitution. So I think the overall message was that ordinary Indians even in rural areas understand the value of the Constitution. So it was heartening to see how people voted.” (ANI)
