Deputies arrest minor connected to Robeson County murder investigation

ROBESON COUNTY, NC (WMBF) – A minor has been taken into custody following a murder investigation in Robeson County last week.

The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office said 18-year-old Damien Colton Chavis, of Scotland County, was found dead last Thursday morning on the side of the road on East 7th Street.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol believed Chavis had been hit by a car. In a preliminary investigation by RCSO, the two agencies decided to allow the sheriff’s office homicide division to take over the investigation.

RCSO said on Monday, the juvenile surrendered to investigators and will face charges in connection to the incident. It’s unclear what charges they face or Chavis’s cause of death.

The suspect is now being held at the Cumberland Regional Juvenile Detention Center without bond.
