The Analogue Pocket is now available in six Game Boy Color-inspired shades

Analogue returns with a new collection of new colors for its Pocket handheld console, now inspired by Nintendo’s first color handheld console. The Pocket GBC Colors Edition introduces six new colors (teal, berry, kiwi, grape, and dandelion) that were the five launch colors of the Game Boy Color in 1988, as well as a gold version based on a special edition GBC created for Pokemon Gold.

The GBC Colors Edition collection will be available for pre-order in limited quantities starting September 12 at 8am PT / 11am ET for $249.99 each, with shipping expected within 24-48 hours.

To ensure the new collection would be true to the colors of Nintendo’s original hardware, the company used “the highest quality equipment, tools, and processes to achieve accuracy,” says Analogue CEO and founder Christopher Taber. Those processes included cross-referencing Game Boy Color units from “different production years” and taking measurements inside the handheld consoles, where the colors of the plastic casings had not faded due to heavy use and exposure to light.

The Analogue Pocket was released in 2021 and has been able to play original Game Boy Color cartridges since its debut, as well as cartridges from other handheld consoles like the Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, and Sega Game Gear (with the help of an adapter). Since its debut, Analogue has released several special editions of the Pocket, including a glow-in-the-dark version, several with transparent shells, and an aluminum version with a higher price tag of $499.

The company’s next product will be a recreation of another Nintendo console. The Analogue 3D is expected to be “100% compatible” with N64 cartridges from all regions as well as 4K output. Additionally, it is expected to play games with more precision than emulators since it uses FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) technology, allowing it to function exactly like the original N64 hardware.
