WMU football team set for home opener this weekend

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Heading into Week 3, the Western Michigan football team will finally play at home after two straight losses to Big 10 opponents. The players and head coach Lance Taylor are excited to be back in Waldo.

“The atmosphere is electric. Our student section and our fans have incredible energy and that’s a competitive advantage for us. They’re here and they’re rising to the occasion,” Taylor said.

Quarterback Hayden Wolff said they’d rather be 2-0 than 0-2 at this point in the season, but their games against Wisconsin and Ohio State have put them in a tough spot for the rest of the season.

“I really think these two games have tested us. Our goal this week is to beat Bethune-Cookman. This week, we’re just focusing on what we can do to win this game,” Wolff said.

Mona Shores alumnus Damari Roberson is looking forward to his home opener. He wants his players to go into it with confidence.

“I want to see us show our style. Walk around with a little more confidence. Because we’re bad guys, we just have to play like it,” Roberson said.

The Broncos will host Bethune-Cookman for their first home game of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
