It’s a disappointing feeling when you check out of your hotel and are on your way to your next destination, only to realize you forgot something in your room.

Phew.

Many of us have unintentionally donated a phone charger or dirty laundry to a hotel during our travels. According to Hotels.com’s recent Hotel Room Innsights report, more than a third of hotels surveyed said guests forget items in their rooms at least 25% of the time they stay.

However, maids have also discovered some more unusual items left behind by guests when they check in to their rooms. For this report, Hotels.com surveyed more than 400 partner hotels about the “surprising items” left behind by guests. Some of the items will have you wondering about the story behind them.

Would you like an early check-in at the hotel? Here’s what’s going on behind the scenes.

“Let’s be honest: It’s fascinating to see what guests leave behind,” Melanie Fish, global public relations manager for Hotels.com, told USA TODAY in a statement. Some hotels even offer special services, such as a checklist service to remind guests of essential items upon checkout, according to the report. “And for those who consistently forget their stay, there’s a hotel hero willing to go out of his way to reunite us with these precious, irreplaceable items.”

Below are some of the most unusual items left behind by hotel guests, according to Hotels.com.
