Airlines cancel flights to Bali due to ash from erupting volcano

Three Jetstar flights from Bali to Singapore were canceled on Wednesday, according to Changi Airport’s website. The flights were originally scheduled to arrive at 2:15 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 9:15 p.m.

A Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight, which was expected to arrive at 10am on Wednesday, was also cancelled several flights operated by SIA’s budget airline Scoot between Singapore and Bali were canceled or retimed.

AirAsia said in a statement on Wednesday that the “extensive volcanic ash clouds” are expected to affect airspace in the region.

This has led to the cancellation or rescheduling of some AirAsia Malaysia, AirAsia Thailand, AirAsia Indonesia, AirAsia X Malaysia flights to and from Bali, Lombok and Labuan Bajo since Nov 4, it added.

Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, general manager of Bali International Airport, said in a statement on Wednesday that 12 domestic and 22 international flights were affected a day ago, without identifying the routes.

He gave no details about the affected flights on Wednesday’s schedule.

“As a result of this natural event affecting flight operations, airlines are offering affected passengers the option of refund, rescheduling or rerouting,” he added.
