Army Corps of Engineers Announces Closure of Stillhouse Hollow Lake Marina

FORT WORTH, Texas (KWTX) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Fort Worth District and Stillhouse Hollow Lake announced Sept. 11 that they are saddened to announce the “complete closure and removal of the Stillhouse Hollow Marina.”

“A series of unfortunate events led to irreparable damage to the docks and facilities,” the Corps of Engineers said. The marina had been in operation for more than 50 years.

High winds that accompanied the Temple tornado caused severe damage to the marina earlier this summer.

In addition to the wind damage, a boat caught fire and drifted into the main dock area, adding further destruction.

“These two devastating incidents combined caused irreparable damage and led the marina owners to decide to close and remove all facilities,” the Corps of Engineers said.

“The Stillhouse Hollow Lake Office would like to thank the Clapper family for their 30 years of providing a marina to our local community,” the lake office said.

To support the marina’s future capabilities, the Corps of Engineers “firmly intends to put the marina lease out to bid once all damaged facilities have been removed.”
