“This city is CURSED,” disappointed fans react after R&B artist Kehlani cancels her Toronto concert hours before the doors open

R&B artist Kehlani unexpectedly canceled her Wednesday night show in Toronto and fans across the city are in dismay.

The “After Hours” singer took to Instagram this afternoon to announce the cancellation.

“Toronto…you know how much I love you. I was so excited for tonight’s show. Unfortunately I will not be able to perform tonight and have been asked to rest my voice and body,” Kehlani wrote.

“I will come back and I will miss you until I see you again,” they added.

Toronto was supposed to be the fourth stop on Kehlani’s Crash World Tour, which kicked off last week in Minnesota, United States. The tour also featured Anycia and British girl group Flo as opening acts.

Highly anticipated to return to the city after two years since their Blue Water Road Trip Tour show at the Budweiser Stage, Kehlani’s fans are in shock after the sudden announcement, including the few who were already en route to the city from out of town.

“I went to Toronto just because Kehlani’s show got cancelled,” wrote one X user.

Another fan, believed to be based in Montreal, said he woke up early to take a five-hour train to Toronto, only to find out on the way that the show had been cancelled.

“This is not possible… I’m almost in Toronto and Kehlani cancelled her show,” they posted on X.

Many are in disbelief and are once again blaming the infamous “Toronto curse,” a coincidental phenomenon where artists cancel or postpone their Toronto shows at the last minute. Last year, several artists, including SZA, Jhené Aiko and Lil Wayne, left concertgoers disgruntled after unexpected show cancellations.

“First Jhene, now Kehlani canceled. The Toronto concert curse strikes again,” one user posted on X.

“No way Kehlani and FLO just got cancelled in Toronto… that city is CURSED,” another user said.

“Kehlani couldn’t cancel tonight’s show. I’m HURT,” one shocked user posted on the platform.

“Dude, the curse is real,” said another defeated X user.

Most recently, in July, Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter SiR’s concert at HISTORY was canceled, just under two weeks after fellow label member ScHoolboy Q had his show at the same venue canceled.

Kehlani followed up a few hours after their initial announcement on Instagram Stories, promising to reschedule the show.

“I understand everyone’s frustration, but what’s happening is completely out of my control,” the singer wrote. “I will reschedule the show, I promise.”

Scotiabank Arena has officially confirmed the cancellation on X, stating that ticket holders will receive refund information directly from Ticketmaster.
