Bodies found at northern Arizona campsite: Murder-suicide, police say

COCONINO COUNTY, AZ (AZFamily) — Detectives are investigating what they believe to be a murder-suicide after two bodies were found at a Coconino County campsite earlier this week.

Shortly before 4 p.m. on Monday, September 9, a 911 caller reported finding two people unconscious at a campsite south of Stoneman Lake Road. Coconino County Sheriff’s deputies and Mormon Lake Fire Department crews arrived and found two people lying outside their vehicle.

They were pronounced dead at the scene. According to the sheriff’s office, both died from gunshot wounds.

Their identities have not been released, but investigators say they are family members from the Phoenix area.

The sheriff’s office said there are no current concerns about public safety following the shooting, which remains under investigation.
