Former DNCC mayor Atiqul was remanded for five days in a murder case

A court here has remanded former Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Atiqul Islam to five-day police custody in a case filed over the murder of one Bokul Miah at the Uttara East police station.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Farzana Shakila Sumu Chowdhury issued the order when police produced him before the court and pleaded to remand him for 10 days in the case.

Police on October 16 arrested the former DNCC mayor from Mohakhali DOHS area of ​​the capital. The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Ali Haider sent Atiqul Islam to jail the next day, revealing that he was arrested in three separate murder cases.

According to the court documents, Bokul Miah joined the anti-discrimination student movement in the Uttara East region on July 18. He was shot in the head and succumbed to his injuries the next day. Later, his widow Monika Akter filed the case with the Uttara East police station.
