Biden, Starmer meet as Russia warns of missiles aimed at Ukraine

“CLEAR DECISION”

Biden said Tuesday he was “working” on Ukraine’s requests to use longer-range missiles, while top U.S. and British diplomats Antony Blinken and David Lammy made a rare joint visit to kyiv on Wednesday.

Biden has strongly supported Ukraine since the Russian invasion, but he has been reluctant to embark on new types of arms deliveries, fearing they could escalate nuclear tensions with Putin.

His reluctance to allow Ukraine to use long-range U.S. missiles follows similar delays over HIMARS rockets, tanks and F-16 jets, which he ultimately approved.

But the approach of the US elections on November 5 means time is running out to make a decision.

Trump has repeatedly pledged to quickly push through a deal to end the war if elected — a deal that many Ukrainians say would force them to accept Russia’s territorial gains.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz reiterated Berlin’s refusal to send long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine.

“This decision will not change,” Scholz said when asked about the issue at a news conference.
