Woman pushing wheelchair in critical condition after being hit by vehicle in Phoenix

PHOENIX (AZ family) — A woman is fighting for her life after being struck by a vehicle while pushing her wheelchair across the street in Phoenix Saturday morning.

Phoenix police were called to the scene of the collision near 30th Street and Indian School Road around 5 a.m. Officers arrived and found a woman in the roadway with a vehicle stopped nearby.

The woman was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition. Police say the driver showed no signs of impairment.

Detectives believe the woman was pushing her own wheelchair across the street in the middle of the block when she was struck by a vehicle traveling west on Indian School Road.

The area is closed while police investigate the cause of the collision. No reopening date has been set.
